Predator lurking in the bushes

Vaikka Predator onkin nimensä veroinen sisällä, muuttuu se pihalla kauheaksi vellihousuksi. Valjaiden päälle saaminen on yleensä suuren huijauksen ja oveluuden takana. Hissimatka alas pihalle saa kissan laulamaan valitusvirttä.

Monesti itse ulkoilu näyttää tältä. 

Although Predator is worth his name inside the house, outdoors he's such a wuss. Getting the harness on requires tactics and tricks. The way down in an elevator is filled with my cat's bitter cry.

Usually our trip to outdoors looks like this.

Me siis istutaan terassilla kantokopassa ja mussutetaan lehtiä ja muristaan ohikulkijoille. Jee.

Pitkän istumisen ja suostuttelun jälkeen kissa uskaltautuu tutkimaan terassia. Kun terassi on todettu turvalliseksi, voidaan mennä syömään ruohoa terden nurkalle.

We just sit on the terrace, inside our carrier bag and munch some nearby leaves and growl at passers-by. Yay.
After a long time of sitting and persuasion Predator finally has enough courage to come out and explore the terrace. When the terrace is found safe, we can move to munch on nearby grass.

Ennen käytössä oli Kesomaan valjaat, jotka itse tein kun olin sielä kesätöissä vuonna... 2009?

Nämä valjaat eivät vaan istu Roottorille kauhean hyvin. Rinnuksille menevä hihna on liian lyhyt ja hivuttautuu aina kainaloon, mikä näyttää todella epämukavalta. Roottori on myös päässyt valjaista irti saadessaan kauhean sätkyn. Kiitos nopeiden refleksieni ja kynsimisensietokykyni, kissa ei ole päässyt karkuun. Pari paitaa on kyllä tuhoutunut prosessissa. Nämä valjaat aiheuttavat myös kuuluisan valjashalvauksen päälle laitettaessa, eli kissa heittäytyy kyljelleen eikä suostu liikkumaan ja liikkuessaan kulkee maha maata pitkin.

We have been using a harness from Kesomaa, which I actually made myself while working there one summer back in... 2009? This harness doesn't fit perfectly though. The strap going over his chest is a little too short and always slides under his armpit, which looks a bit uncomfortable. Predator has also broken free from this harness but thanks to my reflexes and endurance towards clawing the cat has never gotten far. Couple of shirts have been destroyed in the process though. This harness gives my cat "a harness paralysis", meaning he just collapses on the floor and creeps around on his belly. The harness isn't too tight or anything, sometimes cats just do this.

Ajattelin tehdä ulkoilusta hieman mukavampaa ostamalla uudet valjaat. Koska Vänttisiä on kehuttu ihan hirveästi, päätin siis kokeilla niitä. Valjaissa oli vielä lappu ensimmäisellä kokeilukerralla, jotta voisin vaihtaa ne tarvittaessa eri kokoisiin, mitä ei sitten tarvinnutkaan tehdä. Ei nämäkään valjaat ole niin hyvät kuin kehuista ja ylistyksestä voisi kuvitella. Ne eivät saa sata prosenttista luottamustani, siitä että ne eivät kurista ja että kissa ei pääsisi niistä irti sekunnissa halutessaan. Valjashalvausta nämä eivät kuitenkaan aiheuttaneet. 


Hence the harness we were using had these problems, I decided to buy a new one. There's this brand called Vänttinen, which has been really praised here in Finland so I decided to give it a try. I left the price tag on when we first tried these out so that I could replace them if they wouldn't fit. But the harness fits ok. I'm not fully happy with it though. I'm not certain that the harness is comfortable and doesn't choke my cat, I'm also not certain that my cat couldn't break free if he wanted to. At least these don't cause "harness paralysis".

Täytyy tarkkailla. Onneksi kissa nykyään pelästyessään säntää takaisin kantokoppaansa.

We'll just have to take it carefully. Luckily Predator usually dashes back to his carrier bag when he gets scared.

Panic attack. Yes, he is wearing both collar and harness here because I knew he was going to flip out.

Tämä ei siis ollut tuotevertailu Kesomaan ja Vänttisen välillä, sillä Kesomaan valjaat ovat muuttuneet erilaisiksi siitä, mitä meillä on ollut käytössä. Lisäksi, olemme ulkoilleet Vänttisillä vasta kerran.


So, this post wasn't a product comparison between Vänttinen and Kesomaa, since Kesomaa has changed their harnesses from what they were and we have used Vänttinen only once.

Molenpien peloista huolimatta olen toiveikas, että Roottori oppisi joskus nauttimaan pihalla olosta. Siksi jatkan tätä. Ja miettikää nyt, miltä tuntuu olla kokoajan sisällä. Päätähän siinä alkaa särkeä. Raitis ilma ei siis voi olla kenellekään pahasta - paitsi allergiakautena. 

 

Mitkä ovat teidän mielestänne parhaimmat valjaat? 

Despite the fact that my cat is scared outdoors, I still have hope that one day he'll enjoy it. This is why I keep taking my cat out. Think about what it feels like to be inside for too long. It gives you a massive headache. Fresh air is what we all need.
