Step by step painting: Alice in wonderland

Sometimes the early stages of painting/drawing look really, really bad, and you just can't help but think is it worth all this time and materials and should  you just quit. Even though the unfinished piece might look bad, you shouldn't give up, instead you should be thinking: "How can I make it better?". You shouldn't critique other peoples unfinished pieces either, because you can't possibly know, what the artist is going to do with it.

Näin kävi tämänkin kuvan kohdalla. Olen iloinen, että jatkoin, vaikka ensimmäisen maalikerroksen kohdalla naureskelin pääni sisällä epätoivoista naurua ja halusin iskeä paletin otsaani.

I had my doubts while painting this. But I'm glad I didn't quit, even though the first layers of paint made me laugh from despair and I wanted to smack myself with my palette.

Kummallista. Teininä en saanut itse maalata edes omia seiniäni yksiväriseksi ja nyt halutaan kunnon seinämaalauksia.

Painting has always been a little strange and hard subject for me. While painting, I haven't the foggiest idea of what I'm doing, but as Taa (that's my boyfriend's nickname) put it: "It seems to be going fine with just instinct."
I think I need to make myself more familiar with painting as people seem to want me to paint things for them. It's weird. When I was a teenager I didn't even get to paint my own bedroom walls blue myself, and now, people are asking me to make real wall paintings for them.
